You might say the Chronicle pulled a "Truman Defeats Dewey" with its Sunday editorial section today. It put Harold Camping — the Oakland minister who predicted the May 21 doomsday — in its "Bad Week"
column (even though this section was put to bed long before the 6 p.m. Rapture was supposed to happen).
They must have felt pretty confident he'd be wrong.
If things had gone differently, I could imagine Camping holding the Chronicle up
Truman-style.
As it is, he's
holed up in his house, refusing to answer the door.
Oh well.
UPDATE: Looks like Camping is
talking now.
